NOW Soy-Free Phosphatidyl Serine is a phospholipid compound derived from non-GMO sunflower lecithin. Phosphatidyl serine plays an essential role in cell membrane composition and intercellular communication. It is an especially important structural component of nerve cell membranes, where it assists in the conduction of electrical impulses and facilitates the activity of neurotransmitters involved in learning, memory, and mood.Natural color variation may occur in this product.

Because it is a non-pharmaceutical supplement, my opinion is naturally subjective. But I think it is doing its job for my health, otherwise I wouldn't keep purchasing the product! Do some research before you try it out for your personal needs. I buy other supplements from the seller, and I enjoy them as well.

good source of serine

If you need a supplement of this amino acid, this isn't a bad way to go. The capsules were easy-to-swallow, and seemed to be of high quality manufacture. Recommended.

This Was Exactly What I Needed...

I love this product. It helps me to have mental clarity and gives me energy. I highly recommend it.

Worth trying for mild memory problems

I take a number of supplements, and the main things I look at when I vet them are: 1) Is the manufacturer a trustworthy supplement company? and 2) Is the supplement effective? On the first question, NOW can be considered a trustworthy company. In independent tests at labdoor.com, for example, their supplements score well – free of impurities and containing the amount specified. (I bought their Vitamin D supplements based on the review there). As to the second question, I vet all my supplements at reliable sites like Memorial Sloan Kettering and the Mayo Clinic. The Mayo Clinic's site says "Several studies with phosphatidylserine indicate improved cognitive abilities and behaviors," but they add "no modern studies have continued to focus on phosphatidylserine, suggesting its limited effect." (the article in undated) IN USE I'm taking one pill a day and have experienced no side effects. With any supplement, you should take it for at least 30 days and see if you notice any improvement. If not, it probably isn't working for you. Bottom line: phosphatidylserine is worth trying for those with mild memory problems, and NOW is a reliable source.

Same size as the tablets

I usually get the PS tablets from NOW, so I was happy to get the capsules to review. The tablets have 50 mg of calcium, and the capsules have 40, but otherwise the ingredients are pretty much identical. The capsules are the same size as the tablets, but they float in your mouth, so swallowing them is harder (at least for me). If you are the kind of person who likes to open up capsules and mix them into something, the contents of these tastes mostly like chalk.

It helps me keep my cool.

As I'm rising further into middle age, I find myself being startled more easily and noticably uptight. I've become a terrible backseat driver, gasping and complaining and my friends get too close or go too fast. I asked my doctor for something that would help. She suggested this as a way to lower my cortisol. Gosh darn but it works! I'm sleeping better at night and I don't startle as easily. I'm a much nicer person to drive with.
